How to Make a Midori Inspired Journal Cover

Do you love Midori Traveler’s Notebooks?  Would you like to make your own ‘Fauxdori’ in a custom color or size?  Are you looking for a one-of-a-kind, refillable sketchbook or journal?  Join me as I create a Midori Traveler’s inspired leather journal cover.

Supplies used

  • Leather or a vinyl place mat in desired size
  • Self healing cutting mat
  • Rotary cutter
  • Quilter’s ruler
  • Centering ruler
  • Eyelet punch kit
  • 2mm elastic cord
  • Large eyed needle
  • Jar gripper or piece of no-slip shelf liner
  • Optional charm, beads

Measure and mark for placing the holes:

The order in which to thread the elastic cord through the holes:

How to thread the elastic cord through the center spine hole in order to create the wrap-around closure:

PS: My apologies for the audio. I was worried that I would smack the camera as I wrestled the elastic cord through the holes so I moved the camera to a safer, higher position.  Unfortunately, this made the audio a bit quieter…..
